The FSRT Vault
Perspectives, Essays, and the Evolving Work of FSRT
An evolving collection of perspectives, essays, books, and earlier writings exploring human suffering, regulation, relationship, consciousness, and sustainable change through the developing framework of Functional Systems Regulation Theory.
A Living Archive of the Work
The FSRT Vault brings together essays, perspectives, and earlier writings by Alan Romano, LCSW, documenting the ideas, observations, and questions that contributed to the development of Functional Systems Regulation Theory. Together, these writings trace the evolution of FSRT across trauma, regulation, relationships, psychedelic integration, consciousness, suffering, and sustainable change.
Some writings establish the framework’s foundations. Others apply its perspective to particular questions in psychology, psychiatry, psychedelics, trauma, and everyday life. Together, they document both the development of FSRT and the continuing inquiry surrounding it.
The Vault is not intended to present FSRT as a closed or finished system. It serves as a living archive where ideas can be developed, applied, questioned, and refined over time. Readers are invited to enter through the formal framework, the newer FSRT Perspectives series, or Essays & Earlier Writings that helped bring its central questions into view. Each offers a different point of access to the same inquiry: how human beings adapt within living systems, and what conditions allow meaningful change to become sustainable.
FSRT Perspectives
FSRT Perspectives is a companion series to Psycholytic Perspectives, written by Alan Romano, LCSW. The original Psycholytic Perspectives articles are published through Psycholytic Services and explore psychology, psychiatry, psychedelics, human distress, consciousness, and culture through research, clinical observation, and systems-based inquiry.
FSRT Perspectives extends those original essays through the specific framework of Functional Systems Regulation Theory (FSRT). Each companion piece begins with a question explored in Psycholytic Perspectives and examines it more directly through FSRT concepts such as the Living Field, Homeostatic Patterning, Regulatory Burden, capacity, the Delusion of Comfort, Sacred Distress, and Integration as Reorganization.
These are not reproductions or summaries of the original articles. They are FSRT-specific companion reflections that develop the theoretical implications of each subject: what symptoms may be responding to, how adaptive patterns become organized and sustained, what conditions shape a system's capacity, and what may be required for meaningful reorganization.
Together, the two series form a connected body of work while serving different purposes. Psycholytic Perspectives opens the broader clinical and cultural inquiry. FSRT Perspectives carries that inquiry into the developing architecture of Functional Systems Regulation Theory.
Essays & Earlier Writings
Before FSRT was organized into its current form, many of its central questions were explored through shorter essays on trauma, nervous system regulation, psychedelic integration, spirituality, meaning, and the difference between profound experience and sustainable reorganization.
These writings preserve the development of the framework over time. Some use earlier language or emphasize particular dimensions of the work, but each represents part of the inquiry from which FSRT emerged.
The Published Foundation of FSRT
Healing Beyond the Limits of the Isolated: Functional Systems Regulation Theory, Volume I: Orientation introduces the central shift underlying FSRT: human suffering cannot always be adequately understood when regulation is located entirely within the individual.
The book establishes the foundation from which the articles, essays, and clinical applications throughout the FSRT Vault continue to develop.
